Karina Maria's Family Genealogy
|
The family history that is compiled here covers a period of approximately 170 years starting at about 1850. There are a lot of items that are inferred or assumed from the various sources and or conversations with family members. Karina's ancestors are from Cuba and previous to that Spain, Italy and the Canary Islands. Karina's Parents and Grand-Parents were all born in Cuba. Of Karina's eight Great-Grandparents one was born in Spain the other seven were born in Cuba. The arrival of the family in Cuba is in the mid to late 1800's at a time when significant numbers of Europeans and specifically Spaniards came to Cuba. The family migrated to the United States in the 1960's and 70's and for the most part settled in Florida, Pennsylvania, and Puerto Rico. Within Cuba where the family was for about four generations the family lived in two provinces Matanzas and Las Villas. There are exceptions to this and there are relatives that show up in other places on the island. The data base contains the names of everyone that is a blood relative of Karina or married to one. (The current count is almost 400 persons) In the first review of the family tree I was able to go back to generation number six (counting Karina as generation number one). Once I established the direct ancestors as far back as I could, I then came forward in time filling the tree with siblings and including as many of Karina's contemporaries on the tree as possible. Not all segments of the tree are complete, however, as in some cases little is known about some of the particular individuals and whether they had children or not. There are members of the family still living in the Canary Islands and the northern Spanish province of Asturias as well as in Matanzas and Cienfuegos Cuba. As the family has migrated over the years not all members came to the new country, in every case there were some who remained behind. Documenting the links for those that have been left behind is the most challenging of all. There are segments of the tree that are not complete and will most likely remain that way. This is a work in progress and I will be adding pictures, notes, documents and any other material pertinent to the family history. For privacy and security reasons the family tree is configured to limit information to the public, particularly for living persons.
